OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION
Warning:
When Flash is used for the external storage,
no operation should be performed with the
new flash before it has been initialized by the
CHIPSET. Failing to do so may destroy
information about bad blocks present in the
flash chip and make the flash unusable.
Initial procedure:
Immediately after power up only commands that
do not require access to external memory is
available and may be used.
Before issuing a command that need access to
the external memory the external memory needs
to be initialized with the
Init
command. With
this command, one has to select the correct
memory type, flash or DRAM (and some other
system dependent parameters).
Once an
Init
command has been issued, one has
not to re-send this command again as long as the
chip is powered. However re-sending this
command will do no harm (the messages stay
preserved)
and
allows
parameters (like switching on or off the digital
AGC).
If really wished, one can set one parameter in the
Init
command to simulate a cold restart (as if the
CHIPSET would never have been powered up
before) which will erase all present messages
and reinitialize the external memory.
Initialization of external flash memory can take
some time. Typically 3 to 4 seconds for each
four Mbits. The time needed for DRAM is much
less.
The Master - Slave principle:
The W62410 always behaves as a slave to its
master, which is the host. This means that the
CHIPSET will never send any kind of status or
results back to the host if there was no explicit
request from the host.
The only exception to this rule is the behavior of
IO line 13, which is extensively used to indicate
the state of the current CallerID decoding. Since
CallerID decoding is very time sensitive this IO
line can be connected to a free interrupt line of
the host. The host can then have a very accurate
timing and meet the very strict timing
requirements for CallerID acknowledgements.

In this way it’s possible to avoid going through
the API which has a variable latency which is
not wanted for this time critical part of the
CallerID decoding.
Another advantage of the master – slave
principle is that racing conditions can not exist.
The host simply has to wait until the CHIPSET
answers back with a status or result before it can
issue the next command.
Command groups:
To control the W62410 the API provides an
extensive set of instructions. They have been
grouped together into seven groups:
Group 0:
Setup and various commands.
Group 1:
Recording and playback.
Group 2:
Recording and playback from host.
Group 3:
Tone generation.
Group 4:
Handling of PIO.
Group 5:
MCU memory functions.
Group 6:
CallerID functions.
Overview of the command groups:
Group 0:

Idle:
Generally used to stop a command but also
used to put the chip in sleep mode (power saving)
and/or performing garbage collection of deleted
messages.

Init:
Specifies among other things the type of
external memory (Flash or DRAM). Also
indicates if the compression algorithm has to
perform silence compression and digital AGC.
It also specifies some system clock dependent
parameters. It also allows simulating a cold
restart.

SetThresholdLevels:

pecifies a set of
threshold levels for e.g. voice activity,
continuous tone duration and DTMF sensitivity
to adapt the CHIPSET to different telephone
line conditions.

SetMaxLengthRecording:
With this command,
the CHIPSET will automatically stop the
recording after the specified time. This happens
in incremental steps of one minute. Between
one and 15 minutes are allowed but unlimited
recording time is possible also. In addition, it
allows specifying that a flag has to be set high in
the status register when the recording reaches
the end of the allowed recording time for an
ICM message. This warning time can be set
between 2 and 30 seconds in steps of 2 seconds
each. No warning time can be specified also.
