generation modes. This echo canceller enhances
significantly the performance of the DTMF and
call progress tone detectors in the presence of
near end echo caused by the hybrid.
Power Down mode:
If wished the W62410 can be put in a low power
down mode. In this mode, only the Real Time
Clock and the refresh circuits for DRAM are still
activated. All other circuits of the CHIPSET are
set into static mode to save energy.
Waking up the W62410 happens by resetting the
CHIPSET. The W62410 then first performs a
very fast self-check and tests the integrity of the
storage memory after which the host can start
sending commands.
CallerID (CID and CIDCW):
The W62410 is capable to monitor for and
demodulate the various signals for caller
identification. The CHIPSET supports both
Bellcore 202 and V.23 FSK demodulation as
used in countries like the USA and the UK.
The W62410 automatically detects between
Bellcore 202 and V.23 and uses the appropriate
algorithm to decode the incoming FSK
information.
In the case of British Telecom CID1 detection
there are two specifications.
The first specifies a special Tone Alert Signal
(TAS) tone, which has to be detected (followed
by the FSK demodulation), between the first two
rings. The W62410 is capable of doing this.
However, due to the very strict timing that the
host has to acknowledge back to the Public
Standard Telephone Network (PSTN) the
CHIPSET will use IO line 13 to assist the host.
IO line 13 is set high when the TAS tone has
been detected and will be set to low as soon as it
detects the end of the TAS tone. This will be
typically between 3 to 7 milliseconds after the
end of the detection of the TAS tone. This timing
is strict enough to allow the host to undertake the
appropriate action to acknowledge back to the
PSTN that it wants to receive the Frequency
Shift Keying (FSK) modulated information.
When the CHIPSET has detected the end of the
TAS tone, the CHIPSET automatically switches
to FSK demodulation mode to decode the
following Caller ID information.

The other British Telecom CCA specification
alerts the DTAM using line reversal before the
first ring for an incoming CID1, thus not needing
the TAS signal. In this case, only a FSK
demodulation is needed. Again it is up to the
host to undertake the appropriate action to
acknowledge back to the PSTN that it wants to
receive the FSK modulated Caller ID
information.
Since there are two British Telecom standards
concerning CID1 it’s up to the host to decide
which specification of the British Telecom CID1
is used at that particular telephone line.
The W62410 supports detection of the Caller
Alert Signal (CAS) in all functional modes for
Call Waiting CID support. Again, both standards
for the USA and the UK are fully supported. As
soon as the CAS tone is detected, the CHIPSET
automatically sends the required DTMF “D”
tone back to the PSTN to acknowledge. After
this, the PSTN sends the CallerID information to
the CHIPSET, which will be decoded
automatically. When all CallerID information
has been received the host can retrieve the
CallerID information either on a field by field
basis, ideal for Multiple Data Message Format
(MDMF) messages. In case of an Single Data
Message Format (SDMF) message, the complete
message block is returned. As a second option,
the whole CallerID block (which includes the
header, length, message and CRC) can be
retrieved.
