V
= one bit to indicate to allow compression of silence. When set to “1” this can compress one
voice-frame into one byte if the voice-frame only contains silence. However when set to “0” all
voice-frames will have the same length, even if it is silence.
0 = don’t allow compression of silence. All voice-frames will have the same compressed frame
length and the STREAMTALK
coder will produce exactly 4800 bps.
1 = allow compression of silence. Depending on the presence of silence the actual bitrate can be
reduced with up to between 25% and 30% compared to no silence compression but will
never be higher than the maximum of 4800 bps.
A
= one bit to switch the digital AGC of the STREAMTALK
coder on or off.
0 = do not perform digital AGC.
1 = perform digital AGC.

SCLKDIV
= 1 bit defining a cold start
0 = normal start
1 = cold start
= 3 bits representing the type of external memory.
000 = external memory is Samsung 4Mbit FLASH RAM.
001 = external memory is Samsung 16Mbit FLASH RAM.
010 = external memory is DRAM 1M x 4.
011 = external memory is DRAM 4M x 4 (2K refresh).
100 = external memory is DRAM 4M x 4 (4K refresh).
101 = reserved for future use.
110 = reserved for future use.
111 = reserved for future use.
SCLKDIV
= 3 bits containing the value for the SCLK Divider reg.
REFDIV
= 9 bits containing the value for the Refresh Divider reg.
Remark 2:
For a 24.576 MHz clock the advised value for SCLKDIV is 5 decimal (or 0x05)
Remark 3:
For a 24.576 MHz clock the advised value for REFDIV is 383 decimal (or 0x017f)

Remark 1:
The least significant four bits can be “0” or “1” indicating a flash of 4 or 16 MBit present. A “0” could
also mean a faulty flash or DRAM device. In this way, a maximum of 64 Mbit of flash or 16 MBit for
DRAM can be used as external storage memory.
Remark 2:
The “C” flag indicates if a cold start has been executed even when the host didn’t ask for it. It could be
that the chipset had to perform a complete cold restart (e.g. due to a battery backup failure).
