By default, the W62410 doesn’t put any
restrictions on the time of the recording (unless
memory is full, then the recording is
automatically stopped). The host can instruct the
CHIPSET to put a maximum recording time
length in steps of 1 minute (times between 1 and
15 minutes can be specified, a zero is considered
as no limit on the recording time).
The host can also specify that the CHIPSET
signals the host that the caller approaches the
end of the allowed recording time. This happens
in steps of 2 seconds (between 2 and 30 seconds,
0 seconds indicates no warning flag). E.g. when
the maximum recording time is set to 2 minutes
and the warning time is set to 20 seconds. The
CHIPSET will then set a flag high after 1 minute
40 seconds to indicate the host that the caller has
20 seconds or less of remaining recording time.
When this flag is set high the host can undertake
some action to warn the caller that recording
time is running out. This can be a simple beep
but the CHIPSET also allows the playback of
voice prompts. In this case, the recording is
interrupted while the voice prompt message is
being played after which the recording
automatically continues. The recording can then
be stopped by the host when it detects no activity
anymore on the telephone line (using the
information given by the CHIPSET). In any case,
the CHIPSET itself stops the recording when the
maximum allowed recording time has been
reached.
Automatic tagging of recordings:
The W62410 contains a real time clock giving
the current day, hour and minute. When a
recording is being made the message is
automatically tagged with this time information.
If there is CallerID 1 information present then
this info will also be added to the recorded
message and will be automatically placed back
in the CHIPSET memory when this message is
played back. So the host has then the opportunity
to retrieve the CallerID information associated
with the recorded message.
Message Playback:
During playback, the W62410 always monitors
the telephone line and at every moment, the host
can request this information to be sent back to
the host.

In contrast with many other Telephone
Answering Device (TAD) chips, the W62410
has a completely different way of storing
messages, which considerably eases the message
management for the host. Instead of the popular
array slots solution used by most TAD chips the
W62410 uses a doubly linked list structure. For
every mailbox there is a pointer pointing to the
current ICM and/or memo to be played back.
The W62410 always remembers to which
message it points to and which message has to be
played back. With a special API command the
host can move this pointer to the next or
previous message (in chronological order) with
the choice of moving only the pointer for ICM or
memo messages. In addition, one can choose to
move the message pointer to the first message in
chronological order, which can be either an ICM
or a memo message.
Since the CHIPSET handles completely the
message management itself, it is able to assign
itself an ID number to the message. Therefore,
the host doesn’t have to keep track of ID
numbers for all ICM and/or memos for all the
different mailboxes. Deleting a message also
automatically renumbers the messages.
Progress Indicator:
During recording and playback of a message the
CHIPSET increments a counter every 30
milliseconds. At every moment, the value of this
counter can be retrieved from the CHIPSET.
This value can be useful to calculate the exact
amount of time the current recording or playback
has already been taken at that particular moment
and can then be displayed to the user.
Variable speed playback, pausing,
tone generation, volume change and
skipping inside a message:
Playback of a message always starts from the
beginning. During playback, there are several
options:
One can halt (pause) the playback of a message
after which one can resume the playback from
the same point.
Generate a (single or dual) tone during the
playback. The playback stops during the
generation of the tone and resumes from the
same point when the tone generation stops.
